Eleanor Fortescue-Brickdale ou l'art magique

 

Eleanor Fortescue-Brickdale (1872-1945) est une artiste anglaise née à Norwood, dans le Surrey. Formée à la Royal Academy, elle travaille dans un premier temps dans l'illustration d'histoires (dont Iddyls of the King, d'Alfred Tennyson) puis se consacre peu à peu à la peinture. Elle exécute des scènes de genre et des portraits et expose à partir de 1896. Elle est célèbre pour avoir fait revivre le style préraphaélite, vers la fin du 19e siècle, par des sujets moraux ou médiévaux et des couleurs vibrantes. L'ensemble inspire un univers onirique.
